HOW TO FISHTAIL BRAID SOCK BUN/CHIGNON UPDO ON MEDIUM LONG HAIR: Easy Hairstyles

In today's super easy hairstyles hair tutorial, I'm going to show you how you can make a everyday Fishtail Braid (sock or donut) Bun/Chignon updo to your own hair for any occasion - wedding/bridal, formal occasion, homecoming, prom, to work, party, etc.  This is a great look for medium hair and long hair.

PREP:
Requires nothing. If you have a lot of layers and would like to make this hairstyle neat, then simply dampen your hair with some water before starting.

 Hair Tutorial:

• Split your hair into 3 even sections & clip away the middle section only.
• Create 3 fishtail braids with these 3 sections.  Braid the sides first as this will save time.
• Make sure to fluff and loosen your fishtail braids.
• With the 3 fishtail braids, braid these into 3 strand  french braid, then loosely tie them.
• Now, roll the braid towards the nape, creating a bun.
• If you would like a bigger, fuller and more voluminous fishtail braided bun/chignon updo look, attach a sock/donut to your braid before rolling, and roll them all together before securing it.
• Fluff the braids and create the bun shape you want. - You can make this as messy or neat as you like. 

No matter what you do, with this braiding technique, you're bound to end up with a cute, funky, edgy fishtail braid bun that will have your friends wondering what you did to get this look!

EASY HAIRSTYLES: FRENCH ROPE BRAID BUN CHIGNON UPDO ON LONG HAIR

In today's easy hairstyles hair tutorial, I'm going to show you how you can create 2 messy French Rope Braid Hairstyles that you can wear everyday casually or for a wedding, homecoming and prom on medium long hair.

 First style is a Rope Braid bun/chignon and the other, a Boho, loose & carefree side rope braid.

 PREP:
Since my Asian hair is straight and I have a lot of layers, I'm doing this on damp hair with some soft gel on my ends - other wise, it would get a tab "too" messy.  I suggest you do the same.  :)

French Rope Braid Bun-Chignon Coiffure

STEP 1:


Starting from the sides, split the hair into 2 even bundles and twist them twice. After the initial 2 twists, start French Rope braiding towards the back.

STEP 2:

Unlike the regular French braid, you can not twist or braid until all bundles (2 in this case) have a piece of hair from each side.

Therefor,  keep the 2 big bundles -  we'll call them bundle A and B -  immobilized while you gather hair from each sides before  twisting them - once.

Example:

• grab some piece of hair from the left then give it to bundle A 
• grab some piece of hair from the right and give it to bundle B
• now that both bundles have a piece of hair, we twist.

You simply repeat this process until all the hair is put up before you tie it with a rubber band at the nape.

STEP 3:

• Wet the ends again to continue rope braiding until the end.
• After tying the ends, create a tight bun/chignon and simply secure it with a few bobbi pins.

 

 

 BOHO Side Loose Rope Braid:
 For the loose braid version of this hair tutorial, simply stop at Step 2, loosen the rope braids and wear it as is. :)



If you like tight looking rope braid look, then you'll need to twist the 2 bundles separately in 1 direction, before connecting them and twisting them together in the opposite.

  Example:  if you had twisted the 2 strands "clockwise", then you will combine the 2 strands and twist them together "counter clockwise".

PREP:
I've applied some soft mouse and a heat protectant on my damp hair, then allowed it to dry completely.

STEP 1:
Since my Asian hair is pin straight, and I need to create Taylor Swift's curly hair texture, I'm going to create the waves with my 1/2 inch, tapered curling iron (that I'm using on all my hair tutorials! ) to curl my hair.

• Take small sections the size of your iron
• Heating the hair only for 5~10secs, depending on how resistant  your hair is.

STEP 2:
I will then section away the sides so that they don't get in my way.

STEP 3:

• Start teasing the crown to create some volume, making sure not to disturb the ends of the hair.  We need to keep them curly, not frizzy.  
• After teasing the crown, we're going to loosely, and messily tie our hair back in a low, side ponytail.
• To create more texture in the ponytail, I'm going to loosen up the ponytail by pulling out some of the hair from the side ponytail.  

Step 4:
Now we start making tight curls to pin up into a side bun/chignon.

• Twirl a piece of a fat curl around your finger very loosely, then hold down a small strand, while pulling up the curl towards the roots with your other hand. (please watch my YoutTube video to see what I mean here, this part is hard to explain.)
• You can create a loose rope braid before pulling the curl up as well.. (rope braid: twisting 2 strands of curls together). This will make the curls bigger and more voluminous.
• You will simply do this to the rest of your ponytail to create Taylor Swift's curly, messy side bun/chignon.

STEP 5:
The sides are done freestyle.  Simply pin them back one by one  to create the shape you want. :)

EASY HAIRSTYLES: HOW TO OLD HOLLYWOOD, PIN-UP GIRL HAIR FOR MEDIUM LONG HIAR

In this easy hairstyles, hair tutorial,  I'm going to show you, how you can create an old Hollywood, red carpet, vintage pin-up girl, loose waves hairstyle on medium to long hair from the 40s and 50s.

Prep:
I've applied some soft mousse/gel and a hair protectant on damp hair.

STEP 1:

• On dry hair, using a 1/2 inch curling iron (I'm using my usual Cortex 4 in 1 Curling Iron), curl all of your hair downwards or towards the front so that your hair will frame your face naturally. 
•  Create pin curls on your crown and 4 on each side of your head above your ears.  This is what will create that authentic pin up girl (aka pinup) hair.

Step 2:

• Leave the pin curls to cool down for 10 mins.
• Remove the pin curl clips and thoroughly brush it out with a bristle brush.  I kid you not when I say that  this is a long process, you will need to calm down the crazy curls. 
• Applying a bit of a oil serum here will help to loosen up the curls.
• Brush and brush those curls until they look somewhat manageable - which is around 3-5mins.

STEP 3:

• Now simple back comb the curls and start shaping and molding the curls into place.
• Part your hair on the side (where your eyebrows arch) and tease.
• Clip one side of your head with a bobby pin, right behind the ear. 
• If a curl is being stubborn, simply tease and comb that piece into place. 
•  Hairspray when you're done

All done!  Feel free to use a flower, or any other pretty hair ornaments to make this vintage, retro pin up hair more fancy.
